Sunrises and Sunsets: Nothing captures the full glory of God’s creation more than a beautiful sunrise or sunset.
"Sunset Over the Chesapeake Bay" - This sunset caught me by surprise as my wife and I walked a quiet path along the edge of the Chesapeake Bay in Kiptopeke State Park on Virginia's Eastern Shore. The breakwater visible above the tree line was constructed using the hulls of nine concrete hulled ships built during World War II. Two of some dozen such ships actually saw combat mission during the war!
"Sunset Over Mount Haleakala Observatory" - The observatory at Mount Haleakala sits over 10,000 feet above sea level on the island of Maui, Hawaii. A temperature here of some 38 F caught us by surprise as we had begun our trek to the top an hour earlier in temperatures in the mid 80's!
"Sunrise Over the St. Stanislaus Pier" - The pier at St. Stanislaus High School in Bay St. Louis, Mississippi is a landmark all its own. Reconstructed after Hurricane Katrina, the pier is used by the school's students for various school and recreational activities. This sunrise is partially obscured by the grey, overcast winter sky.
"Sunrise Over the Bay Marina" - I captured this image early one October morning just after crossing the Bay Bridge in Pass Christian, Mississippi. Sunrises and sunsets over the Bay of St. Louis can be quite spectacular especially in the clear, crisp sky on an early Fall morning.
"Thanksgiving at Folly Beach" - This beautiful sunset sky highlights the family fun found on a cool, crisp Thanksgiving evening at Folly Beach, South Carolina. Located a short drive from Charleston, the beach at Folly is quite inviting even on a cool Thanksgiving Day.
"Bay Bridge Sunrise" - The lights along the Bay St. Louis Bridge can still be seen burning in the distance on this crisp October morning. The bridge spans approximately 1.9 miles over the Bay of St. Louis and connects the cities of Bay St, Louis and Pass Christian along the Gulf Coast in south Mississippi. This span replaced the old bay bridge that was destroyed in Hurricane Katrina in 2005.
"Sunset on the Beach at Pass Christian" - I chose this striking photo as the home page for my website. Although not truly a beach person myself, this beach has always been a favorite spot of mine. Rarely frequented by the masses, it has retained its almost pristine allure. On close observation, Pelicans can be seen in the photo skimming the surface of the water as they search for an evening catch.
"Another Sunset Atop Mount Haleakala" - The sun appears to be resting in the clouds as seen at 10,000 feet atop Mt. Haleakala, Maui.
"Sunset Over the Pacific Ocean" - Sunsets such as the one above are commonplace off the coast of Maui, Hawaii. We patiently awaited the completion of the sun's "decent" in hopes of catching a glimpse of the 'Green Flash'. The Green Flash is a true meterological optical phenomena usually (though rarely seen) occurring at sunset when the part of the sun just remaining above the water flashes green only lasting 1 to 2 seconds. We were not so lucky at this sunset!
